The GodHead, One or Three--and Why Bother?

Wow, had a great class this week. The Young Women met all together, and brainstormed great ideas.

Is There A God?  What part does He have in the GodHead?   Click there for resources to learn.

Why do we bother to get a testimony of God?

The group said Believing in a God helps the following:
  • It's Reassuring to know we're not doing this all alone.
  • Atoning Help in everything - through Christ.  Phip 4:13 !!!  Yeah, click it!
  • Good to know life has a Plan and Purpose.
  • Prayers - to know somebody listens and answers.
  • After life, there is peace in knowing families are forever.
  • Hope amidst failure--for repentance and forgiveness.
  • Through Him temples work--for inspiration too.
  • and more I can't remember.  WE NEED A SCRIBE people!!!
They explained why we believe the Godhead is separate and they discussed where in the Bible it says so,
  • Liz W. talked about JS Vision in Joseph Smith History  and in the Bible:
  • Courtney M. Acts 7:55-56 during the stoning of Stephen when he sees God and Jesus separate
  • In Luke 22:42 when Jesus is praying -- to God we assume in Gethsemane that his plea - "Father, Let this cup pass from me" is not to himself.
  • In Luke 23:34 When Jesus is on the cross and prays "Father, Forgive them..."  to whom, himself?
They talked about how the combination of the trinity began. (Wiki'd Council of Nicea)

In 300 AD there was lots of religious infighting, Emperor Constantine called the leaders together in Nicea and made them decide on the nature of God.  The men decided it would be easier if there was only one God all grouped together, and so it was.  Subsequent translations of the bible coincide with that decision.

We ended with questions about what we learned or the nature of the Godhead for next week:

  • If God has a purpose, how does the Godhead work together to accomplish it?  John 17:211 John 5:7Alma 11:44D&C 20:28
  • What does it mean when we're told God, Jesus and Holy Ghost are One?
  • Will the Holy Ghost ever get a body and gain salvation?
  • and more... which I can't remember people!  Anyone recall?
Thanks for all your challenging thoughts.  Leaders can only facilitate when we know Your Plan.

My best for a great week,  Sister Darcey
